“Kyoto Whisky Kuroobi” Wins Gold Award at WWA2025 Whisky Competition Held in the UK

Kyoto Shuzo Co., Ltd. (Location: Kyotamba Town, Funai District, Kyoto Prefecture; President: Kazuya Toyoda)’s “Kyoto Whisky Nishijin-ori Series Kuroobi” received high praise from judges at the WWA (World Whiskies Awards 2025, hereinafter WWA) 2025 held in the UK and won the Gold Award.
Receiving this prestigious award is the culmination of our years of effort, and we are deeply honored that the fusion of Japanese tradition and whisky culture has been recognized worldwide.
The Journey to the Award
“Kyoto Whisky Nishijin-ori Kuroobi” is a unique whisky that incorporates the traditional craft of Nishijin weaving into its bottle design.
However, we didn’t focus solely on appearance.
We pursued every detail to express Japanese character in the whisky’s flavor as well.
We carefully aged it while utilizing the temperature changes created by Kyoto’s four seasons.
Furthermore, during blending, we emphasized delicate balance and struggled to achieve both elegance and depth of flavor.
Challenges and Aspirations
Whisky making takes time.
While watching over the whisky quietly aging in barrels, we continuously faced the question of “how should we present this whisky to the world?”
“Kyoto Whisky Nishijin-ori Kuroobi” was born from the challenge of fusing Japanese traditional culture with whisky making.
Through repeated trial and error, we aimed for an uncompromising finish in both design and quality.
This gold award demonstrates that our efforts have borne fruit, and we are genuinely delighted that our whisky has been recognized worldwide.
Future Prospects
Encouraged by this award, we will continue to forge ahead in whisky making.
We will continue to pursue further challenges to deliver bottles that allow whisky enthusiasts around the world to feel the pride of Kyoto.
We sincerely thank everyone who has supported us daily for this award.
Please continue to look forward to Kyoto Shuzo Co., Ltd.’s whiskies.
