Yasaka Shrine, located in Kyoto city, receives one million visitors every year during the New Year’s shrine visit (hatsumode) season.
The Gion Festival, held every July, is a festival dedicated to Yasaka Shrine and is said to have originated in the Heian period with prayers to end the epidemic.

Although the Gion Festival has ended, since it is situated very close to Kyoto’s bustling downtown area, please do consider stopping by when you visit Kyoto.
