Setsubun day

Hello, this is Kyoto Miyako Distillery.

The third of February. It is Setsubun today.

Setsubun is one of Japanese traditional events that pray for good health.

In Setsubun, there is interesting customs in Ehomaki (a whole Sushi roll). We are supposed to eat up whole Ehomaki without speaking while eating.

So, it can be said like ‘with mouth wide opened but keep it shut (in a meaning)’.

Mamemaki (scattering beans) might follow Ehomaki. Beans here like a weapon to beat Oni (Japanese demons). Throw beans to demons, whishing it away and wishing to invite luck at the same time.

Kyoto Whisky should follow after Mamemaki, we recommend.

Please enjoy your Setsubun day.
